River Wye at Symonds Yat

Welcome to the RWGA website. Our goal 'preservation & protection of salmon in the river Wye.....'

The River Wye Gillies association is dedicated to do whatever it can to improve the environment of the river Wye and its tributaries and in particular its stocks of fish of both game and coarse species. On behalf of all anglers we make representation to various bodies and have representatives on local fishery groups and the Wye Salmon Action Plan whilst other members are engaged in predation control measures etc.
In conjunction with the Salmon and Trout Association of which we are members, we also object on a regular basis to abstraction and foul water discharge applications as and when they occur. We also assist the Wye Foundation whenever possible and take part in the catch up of salmon for the hatchery.
Our membership is now open to all anglers who we hope will assist us in our common aim. Strength is in numbers and this is the main reason for seeking your support. Our original website at www.rwga.co.uk is now back and running. We are retaining this site in order to continue the discssion forums. Please feel free to contribute and to make full use of oue home site.

IN 1957 A SALMON WAS TAKEN AT HEREFORD OF 40LBS +80ZS THE LENGTH WAS 47 INS AND THE GIRTH WAS
26 INS ALL DETAILS VERIFIED BY THE WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT. THE CRAWFORD LITTLE SCALE USED ON MANY BEATS INDICATES IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 44LBS+ 8OZS. A GENEROUS SCALE PERHAPS ?.ON THE LOWER WYE A HUT CHART INDICATES A 36INS SALMON IS ONLY 16LBS A MISERLY SCALE PERHAPS ? THE C. L. SCALE INDICATES 20LBS. DOES ANY ONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY RELIABLE RECORDS ? I HAVE SEEN SOME SUPERB CASTS BY G.FRANKS PERHAPS HE CAN SHARE SOME OF HIS MEASUREMENTS. ARE WYE SPRINGERS ANY DIFFERENT TO OTHER SALMON.? WE ALL FEEL WYE SPRINGERS ARE THE BEST,SHOULD WE THINK ABOUT HAVING A WYE SCALE OF OUR OWN. LOOK FORWARD TO ANY HELP
Do you find this valuable?
